The cultural identity of Egypt is very strongly connected to water. However, different phenomena are challenging the Egyptian delta and their inhabitants. Ground salinization, water pollution and water shortage already have a big impact on daily life in the Egyptian delta. Climate change, population growth, urbanization and human alterations to the water cycle through the use of dams and overusing aquifers will have a big impact on the availability of freshwater for future generations.
The Connecting Deltas art and education programme aims to raise awareness on climate change and the effects it will have on the natural and urban water cycle through education and creativity. Together with the local creative industry community and schools we designed a water week program covering multiple perspectives on these water related topics.
