Santos is the main city in the fast-growing metropolitan region of Baixada Santista, on the coast of the São Paulo state. It’s one of the most populated areas in the state and has the biggest port in the Southern Hemisphere.
The slum’s populations informally settled along the estuary’s water edges are one of the urgent issues. The very limited land available for construction purposes increases the price of the building land making it unaffordable for social housing.
